About me
I am a Welsh painter living and working in Deganwy, North Wales.
My passion for painting has been present all my life. Starting in Pwllheli secondary school, Ellis Gwyn Jones, an inspirational Art Teacher, supported and nurtured my painting journey. Followed by Peter Prendergast and Mike Knowles many years later.
I trained as a nurse in Cardiff ,and practiced for many years in different care settings.
In 2000 I gained a B.A Honours degree in Fine Art from the Wirral Metropolatin College Birkinhead. For the next few years I developed my work, exhibiting in North and South Wales. I retired from Nursing in 2022 and now am painting full time.
Most of my work is oil on canvas.I also enjoy watercolours and mixed media. The starting point of any work is always the immediate emotional response I get from any given subject. I do not want my work to appear polished.Rather I am attempting to evoke the feeling I get when responding to my environment.I find the result unpredictable and exciting.
Recently I am inspired by the coastline around my home. I have become familiar with this area walking the same routes every day. I feel comfortable and reassured by the coastal paths in the sand dunes, the rhythmic elements of grasses following the direction of the air flow. Sunsets and the play of light on the sky and sand. The dynamic of people walking dogs. Upturned boats in a disordered heap. Seagulls flying high in the sky. Yellow gorse, Conwy Mountain and Puffin Island.
